Successful 2020 EMLCA Clinic!

On behalf of the entire EMLCA, a big “Thank you!” to:

  • Rocky Batty and Babson College for providing us the space for this past weekend’s excellent coaches clinic, and sharing his thoughts on recruiting from a college coach’s perspective
  • John Todd for sharing with us the details of his Hingham program that make them so consistently successful (along with a few X’s and O’s)
  • Brian Vona for helping to arrange the several presenters, and for presenting himself regarding recruiting
  • and last but most especially, to Jeff Brameier of Darien HS, for sharing his wisdom what makes for successful programs, along with some of his offensive wizardry

A reminder to those who couldn’t make it that our $40 annual dues, which pay for events like this, are now due. You can pay online or by check. The details are on the “Join/Renew” page. And receipts will be sent out to all those who paid by cash or check this past weekend.

Good luck to everyone this season!

Fundraiser for One of Our Own

Hello EMLCA colleagues, friends and family – Please see the message below from Brian Vona and Tim Jason, and consider contributing to this very important cause. Thank you.

As you may have heard, Lincoln-Sudbury’s beloved trainer, Yoshitaka Ando, passed away earlier this week of complications from Esophageal cancer. He leaves behind four school-aged children, Lucas, Kyle, Marcus and Olivia. We are trying to mobilize the lacrosse community to pitch in and help Ando’s family out.

We set up a GoFundMe for Ando’s Family at this link

Some of you may have met Ando – he was a staple on our sidelines, at camps, at college games, everywhere. Put simply, he just loved lacrosse. He loved the game, and he loved the community associated with the game. We can’t begin to comprehend what his loss means to our school, but right now we want to do everything we can to support his family.

If you wouldn’t mind passing on this link to your respective communities, we would really appreciate it!

Italian National Lacrosse Team tryout

Dear Coaches and Lacrosse Enthusiasts,

My name is Brian Vona, I am the Men’s coach for the Italian National Lacrosse Team. I would appreciate it if you could forward this note to any prospective players with Italian Lineage who would be interested in becoming part of the Italian National Lacrosse Team or the Italian Developmental Team.

The Italian National Lacrosse Team will be hosting an American based tryout on Thursday,  August 8th at St. Anthony’s High School in Melville, NY. The tryout will be held from 2pm to 6pm.

To tryout for the team you must prove lineage with any of the following (Parent, Grandparent or Great Grandparent born in Italy).

The purpose of the tryout is choose players for both teams. One of which will compete in the European Championships in Wroclaw, Poland in July 2020. That team will also be the basis for choosing our team to represent Italy in the world games in British Columbia in 2022.  The Italian Developmental Team will also compete internationally as well as locally within the US.

To make one of these teams you will need to attend the tryout this summer OR be seen by the evaluators in a college or professional game by or before October 31, 2019.

In addition to our tryouts, we are looking for volunteers to get involved with the Italian American Lacrosse (IAL) which will focus on developing our National teams as well as building the sport of lacrosse in Italy. We are looking for people to get involved at all levels and will announce our Board In October 2019.

Please see the links below to register as a player or to get involved in the IAL

Again, since the tryout is drawing near, could you please forward this as soon as possible to your contacts.

Thank you,
Brian Vona
